The Horns of Gallehus were two horns made of gold dated to the 5th century, discovered in Southern Denmark. The replicas currently being kept at the National Museum of Denmark are some of the most beautiful treasures we have from the Germanic Iron Age and one of the most clear Elder Futhark runic inscriptions from the time.
Our horn that you can own is not made of gold like the original unfortunately, but the runic inscription is the same! The runes say:
"ek Hlewagastiz Holtijaz horna tawidō"
"I Hlewagastiz Holtijaz made the horn"
When played with the correct technique, this instrument makes a beautiful powerful sound. Horns are to be played by blowing into the mouthpiece with lips pressed together similar to a trumpet.
